Our first welcome dinner for the Fall 2011 semester has come and gone! The turnout was great and the speaking from the club members were awesome!
After our pizza dinner in Barrows Courtyard, we all migrated downstairs and crowded into one of the classrooms on the lower level. The room was packed full to overflowing (into the hallway), but that’s a wonderful problem to have. There was some introduction to our club and the activities we have going on throughout the semester, and then some of our returning members shared their testimonies and their enjoyment in the Word of God.
One of the juniors spoke of what he learned in a Bible study last semester from a passage near the end of Luke 8, verses 43-46:
And a woman who had a flow of blood for twelve years and who had spent all her livelihood on physicians and yet could not be healed by anyone, approached Him from behind and touched the fringe of His garment, and instantly her flow of blood stopped. And Jesus said, Who is the one who touched Me? And when all denied it, Peter said, Master, the crowds are pressing and crushing You. But Jesus said, Someone touched Me, for I perceived that power had gone out from Me.
He shared with us that although there were crowds of people surrounding and pressing upon Jesus, our dear Lord considered the woman with the flow of blood to be the only one who had really touched Him. This was because she was one who was desperate, seeking to experience Him.
Fast forward to today: Oftentimes, we may be content simply to be around the things of God and the people of God, to be like the crowds pressing against the Lord yet lacking a direct touch with Him. For this upcoming school year, may the Lord put within us a desire within us all to seek Him, that we would reach out even to touch the fringe of His garment!
