Well, it’s summer! But that doesn’t mean the studying stops! We have summer Bible studies! We are going over 1 & 2 Timothy. This past week we went over 1 Timothy 1, and that was a blast. Apostle Paul spoke the matter of God’s economy to Timothy. In verses 3 and 4, he says, “Charge certain ones not to teach different things nor to give heed to myths and unending genealogies, which produce questionings rather than God’s economy, which is in faith.” What is God’s economy? It is God’s plan to dispense Christ into us so we can corporately be the expression of God. The central vision of all the law and the teachings of the Bible is solely for the purpose of God’s economy. This is the aim. Focusing on other things such as unending genealogies and myths only causes questionings and people will miss the aim of God’s economy. With the view of God’s economy in view, we can really read the Bible with God’s perspective.
Now in order to keep that view in mind, we need faith. Now, without a good conscience, faith will leak out and we will become shipwrecked. Verses 18-19 say, “War the good warfare, holding faith and a good conscience, concerning which some, thrusting these away, have become shipwrecked regarding the faith.” Therefore, in order to teach the healthy teaching that dispenses life, we need to have a good conscience so that the Lord can perfect our faith.
