Spring Welcome Week Events | Week of 01.16.12

Hi all!

Hope you had a wonderful winter break. Yes, we all wish that break could always be longer, but since we’re back, let’s make the most of it!

This week, we have a number of activities planned, so let’s get right to them:

Tabling | All Week
We will be tabling today (Monday, 1/16) on Upper Sproul Plaza from 11:00am to 4:30pm. For the remainder of the week, the table will be out from 8:00am to 3:00pm. If you’re on campus, stop by to say hi and visit us!

Gospel Outreach | Tuesday (1/17), 8am-noon
On the first day of instruction (Tuesday, 1/17), we will be canvasing the campus with gospel tracts. If you’ve never had the opportunity to witness to others, this is a great, easy way to start. We will be stationed all around the perimeter at the major entrances to the campus, but if you can’t find us, come by our table on Sproul.

Welcome Dinner & Meeting | Wednesday (1/18), 6-8pm
Our welcome dinner/meeting of the spring semester will be held Wednesday night (1/18) from 6:00-8:00pm at 2430 Dana Street. If you’d like to find out more about our club, what we do and what we’re about, then we hope to see there. What better way to spend a Wednesday night than eating wonderful food and meeting wonderful people?

Visit from SFSU Christian Students | 11.12.11

Christian Students from San Francisco State will be coming to Berkeley this Saturday, November 12, for some fellowship and sightseeing. So whether you missed out on all the fun in our trip to Davis last weekend or you just couldn’t get enough of it, here’s another chance to meet more Christian students from other campuses! We will be getting together at 11:30AM at the Church in Berkeley (2430 Dana St.), and joining the SF State students in various activities. Feel free to come to all the events or just drop by when you have time.

The itinerary is as follows:

  • 11:30AM: SFSU Christian Students arrive. Meet in the Student Center of the Church in Berkeley.
  • 12:00 – 1:00PM: Lunch.
  • 1:00 – 2:30PM: Time of fellowship.
  • 3:00 – 5:00PM: Hike in Tilden Park or visit to Lawrence Hall of Science, depending on weather.
  • 5:00PM: SFSU Christian Students depart. Clean-up time.

I checked the weather for this Saturday and the report says it shouldn’t rain, but just in case it does, our back-up plan will be to go to the Lawrence Hall of Science instead of hiking in Tilden. (The museum is $4 for Berkeley students, $14 for other students, and $17 for adults.)

Please come join in on any of the above activities, and fill out the form so that we can get a head count for food and rides in the afternoon. This is a special opportunity for the students from SF to come to Berkeley, so I would encourage everyone to join in on this time. The more students there are, the richer the fellowship can be!

First General Recap | 09.13.11

We had a good turnout for our first general meeting. Before we started, we sang two hymns: “Grace tis’ a Charming Sound” and “Christ has Come to be Life.” Both songs were very enjoyable and it was good that we were able to touch our spirits by singing to begin our gathering.

The primary matter covered in the First General was an overview of our club committees. Our committees are the ones responsible for coordinating different aspects of what we do as a club. Committee coordinators each gave a brief description of what their committees do. After all the committees were presented, we passed out signup sheets for those interested in joining a committee and the registration flyers for the upcoming Fall 2011 Northern California College Conference.

Here’s a brief summary of each committee

  • The Activities Committee seeks to provide opportunities for all members to have fun together, get to know one another, and to meet members in our sister clubs at nearby campuses.
  • The Food Committee is responsible for the preparation of the food for all our club events and outings, as well as for our student center (a great place to gather and study!).
  • The Gospel and Shepherding Committee organizes times for members to get together to preach the gospel! Other items handled by the committee include our singing time on Sproul, a weekly prayer time to intercede for one another, and putting together care packages for club members.
  • The College Retreat Committee takes care of all the practical details in preparation for each college retreat. College retreats happen once a semester and they are wonderful times to hear the word of God and to meet other Christian students from Northern California. The next college retreat will be October 28 – October 30. Download the fall retreat registration form.
  • The Trips Committee plans the various trips that our club will be having this year. During our annual Spring Break trip, we visit sister clubs in other cities. Last year, we visited sister clubs in Houston and College Station, Texas.

If you were not able to make it to first general and you want to join a committee, then fill out this form here. If you are interested in a Bible study or small group meetings, signup here.

The date of the next club meeting will be posted soon. We look forward to having a wonderful year together!

PYOPicnic Lunches on Memorial Glade!!

The semester is now in full swing, you’re all neck deep in problem sets and reading assignments, but at least the sun is still shining!

We will be having informal BYOPicnic (bring your own) lunches on Memorial Glade (in front of Doe Library) every Wednesday from 12-2 pm, while weather permits. Come hang out, eat, nap, throw the frisbee around, study, maybe even read a little of the Word. Drop by when you’re free, leave when you have to. Maybe we’ll even have snacks there…

Grace be with all of you today!

1st General Meeting: September 13

We will be having our first Christians on Campus general meeting this Tuesday, September 13, from 5-6 pm @ 200 Wheeler.  Maybe you’ve already gotten to know some new faces, or maybe you haven’t had the chance to get involved (yet!).  Either case, come meet people, sign up for Bible studies, and get involved in a committee.

Hope to see many of you there!

A short verse for your enjoyment! “When Christ our life is manifested, then you also will be manifested with Him in glory” (Colossians 3:4).

Update | Week of 09.04.11

We had a turnout of about 40 people for our Labor Day outing at Lake Chabot and all who came out had a blast!! The weather turned out to be just right, so a number of us had the opportunity to get out on the water to kayak and rowboat. While a few went hiking, others laid down some picnic blankets and set up a volleyball net. We got some good games of “street-style” volleyball going, which was fun for both those playing and the audience. Pics from the outing will be coming soon.

For this coming week, our first general meeting is being postponed and will not be taking place tomorrow (Tuesday, Sept. 6). Stay tuned for further updates on this.

And remember, the small group Bible studies on Wednesday and Thursday evenings will be gathering for the second time! If you’d like to participate, please call the respective contact persons:

  • Wed 8-9pm, Dana and Haste: Timber (707) 236-2123
